China's eyewear industry calls for new standards to be introduced, and the industry is facing a reshuffle

The nickel precipitation of the spectacle frame exceeds the standard,

It can cause damage to human health.

The International Organization for Standardization and the European Union Organization for Standardization have strict management measures in this regard.

However, China has not yet written into the national standard.

Once the requirements for nickel precipitation are written into the national standard, more than sixty percent of domestic production enterprises with simple processes, backward equipment and low-end quality may face extinction.

The dilemma of Chinese eyewear companies is that the glasses frame products made in China widely use nickel plating process.

This process is inexpensive.

However, nickel is a heavy metal element that can easily cause skin contact allergies.

Medical observation has proved that long-term exposure to nickel-containing products can cause skin allergies and even cancer.

Back in the 90s of the last century, the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the European Union Organization for Standardization (CEN),

In the standard, strict requirements are put forward for the amount of nickel precipitation and detection of metal spectacle frames

At present, China's standards related to eyewear products, especially the national standard "GB/T14214 General Requirements and Test Methods for Spectacle Frames",

This has not yet been touched.

Recently, the European Union Standardization Organization has conducted several friendly and subtle exchanges with Chinese experts.

It is hoped that the Chinese side will seriously consider the issue of nickel precipitation standards.

This sends a signal to the Chinese eyewear industry:

Once the EU includes the amount of nickel precipitation in spectacle frames in the scope of mandatory management,

A considerable number of Chinese enterprises will face life-and-death challenges.

The dilemma under the pressure of international standards There are strict regulations and testing standards for the amount of nickel precipitation in metal glasses frames.

Products with unqualified nickel precipitation are not allowed to be sold to end consumers.

As early as June 1994, the European Union issued Directive 94/27/EC,

Specifies the standard for the amount of nickel precipitation associated with the product.

In July 1997, the European Union issued three harmonised standards that clarified the methods for the qualitative analysis of nickel precipitation.

ISO/TS24348 "Spectacle Frames - Simulated Wearing of Metal and Alloy Frames and Detection Method of Nickel Precipitation" international standard was officially promulgated in 2007.

It clearly states:

The amount of nickel precipitation of the metal and alloy parts of the spectacle frame in direct and prolonged contact with the wearer's skin

It must not exceed 0.5 μg/cm2/week.

The forthcoming ISO12312-1 "Sunglasses" international standard directly references this provision,

and requires:

Sunglasses must not be designed and manufactured in a way that endangers the health or safety of the wearer

The risk of injury to the wearer's skin due to leaching of the lens or frame material should be minimized.

Researcher Wang Liru, director of the Optical Engineering Research Office of the China Institute of Standardization, said,

In recent years, the European Union Organization for Standardization is reformulating the standards for eyewear products.

Considering that China has now become a major manufacturer and exporter of eyewear products

Officials of the organization communicate with relevant departments of Chinese standardization through various channels.

A few days ago, the secretary general of the ISO/TC172/SC7 Ophthalmic Optics and Instrumentation Technical Committee personally sent a letter to Wang Liru,

She was strongly invited to go to Europe at a convenient time to participate in the communication work on the nickel precipitation standard for spectacle frames.

In her letter, she noted:

Although it is the European Union Organization for Standardization that has come forward to organize the international comparison and standard revision of nickel precipitation in spectacle frames,

But it is not unrelated to China, China is the world's largest producer, exporter and consumer of glasses.

A large number of low-end and mid-range spectacle frames in the European market come from China; And

China itself has hundreds of millions of consumers.

On behalf of the EU CEN170, the Secretary-General of SC7 sincerely hopes that the Chinese counterparts can intervene as soon as possible and make corresponding contributions in this field.

Judging from the many communications, the EU and international ISO organizations are considering this matter very seriously.

Regarding the standard of nickel precipitation in spectacle frames, China cannot bypass it, researcher Wang Liru said,

The kind and subtle expression of the Secretary General of SC7 reveals a subtext:

China should consider formulating a standard for the detection of nickel precipitation in spectacle frames as soon as possible.

China's eyewear products, whether facing the international market or domestic consumers,

If the amount of nickel precipitation is not qualified

There is only one ending:

Knocked out.
