If it weren't for Hugo Gernsback,
Science fiction won't be so widespread.
As editor and publisher of Amazing Stories, he coined the new term "science fiction."
and in 1926 published the first magazine dedicated to the rapid development of the genre of stories.
The Hugo Award is named after him.
Gernsback was also an inventor, and many of his ideas included "combining an electric hairbrush and a comb",
A battery-powered hand-held illuminator and a strip of wax-impregnated cloth are used to remove unwanted hair.
But perhaps his most notable invention is the television glasses (above).
In July 1963, when he was 78 years old,
A magazine called Life gave a brief description of his "TV glasses":
He has now only invented the general outline of glasses,
Leave the specific operation to someone else.
His TV glasses – a gear he believes millions of people aspire to – are a case in point.
In 1963, he came up with the idea of inventing a convenient, pocket-sized portable television.
But he immediately forced himself to ignore this unrealistic idea.
But a few weeks ago, he thought the electronics industry was catching up with his new-age ideas.
So he asked a few of his employees to make a mock-up.
This TV glasses weigh about 140 grams and are surrounded by a lot of small cathode ray tubes.
They trigger the miniature battery to output a low-voltage current.
(Gernsback guarantees that the user is not at risk of electric shock.)
Because each eye has a separate screen, it can present a three-dimensional image – just like our 3D virtual reality glasses now.
Noticing the huge V-shaped antenna sticking out of the glasses, Life describes the effect as "neo-Martian".
To be fair, today's VR glasses are only slightly better looking.
Throughout his long life, Gernsback facilitated the development of many forward-thinking ideas.
They also became a reality after that:
radar detector microfilm,
Remote Medical Computer Matching, Wireless Spectrum Supervision, Bone Conduction Hearing Aids,
Tape recorders, electronic newspapers, personal health tracking devices...... The world is still waiting for some of his thoughts,
While including the Lunar Mining Orbital Mirror Array, the Ham Sandwich is delivered.
